Demolition

Name:          Demolition of the Keebler Baking Plant
Location:      I-70 and Pecos
                     Denver, Colorado

Size:                  80 acres

Owner/ Client:      Keebler Corp.
Prime Contractor: Alpine Demolition, Inc.

Project Description: E-21 provided demolition engineering services including planning, design, review and reports to the city for the demolition of a massive former baking plant previously operated by Keebler in northwest Denver. The demolition engineering included the controlled removal of a large, 95-foot high automated warehouse building situated within 80-feet of the I-70 exit ramp. In addition, a more challenging design involved the controlled drop of a 140-foot tall, 80,000-gallon steel water tank. This design utilized carefully synchronized operations, sequential removal of structural elements, and cable guidance to control the drop of the spherical tank into a prepared catchment basin constructed of soil and concrete rubble.

Additional work included the proper closure of a deep, 20-inch, 1,500-foot, high production water well.
